Politics? I would tend to think that you would need to know a lot about a lot of different topics - finance, economics, labor relations, technology, business, government infrastructure, telling the truth to your constitutnts, etc, etc - in order to be a good politician. Or at least you need to know a lot of smart people who have oodles of experience in all of the subjects I have mentioned (and more besides) and be willing to listen to them and take their adivce. One would think. These days, I guess, all you have to be is popular and well-known.
I heard on NPR on the way to work this morning that Ah-nold Swartzenegger is running for governer of California in the recall election. It seems to me that if we are going to elect the Terminator as governer of California, we might as well elect Robo Cop mayor of Detroit, and then barricade ourselves in our homes and start hording valulable items - gold, canned food, etc - that we can use for barter when the social and economic systems finish breaking down completely.
Am I paranoid? Am I???
August 1
Damn. Summer is now officially 2/3 over. What have I done so far this summer? A helluva lot of work, that's what. Both for my full-time job and my freelance design jobs. Here is some stuff I need to do while the weather is still nice and hot and summer is still around:
- Go swimming in my apartment complex's pool
- Go for a bike ride in UM's botanical gardens
- Go for an early morning weekend bike ride around the river and the north end of town and then end up at The Broken Egg or some other cafe downtown for breakfast
- Lounge around in the outside seating of Espresso Royale on Main Street, sipping coffee and reading and watching the people go by
- Go to the zoo
- Go to the beach
- Have a barbeque in the Arb
- Paintball
- Have just one weekend where I have nothing to do but relax...
