It is a beautiful - sunny and warm - Memorial Day weekend. John and I got a bit too much sun yesterday... we spent most of the afternoon hanging out on the back deck and ended up with (in my case) mild sunburns and sun-indused headaches. This morning we got up bright and early (for me) and went out to the firing range at the Spring Valley state park and had fun shooting at paper targets for a while. I like the .22 rifle. I like it because the telescopic sight allows me to be marginally accurate. Everything else that I tried has iron sights, and I pretty much roundly sucked at it all. I think that I will stick with the .22 in the future. I find that I enjoy shooting more if I am at least doing well at it.
Percival continues to recover from his surgery. He dislikes being dosed with his medications, and I can't really blame him, especially if they taste as bad as they smell. However, I am getting really good at squirting the eyedroppers of stuff down his throat with little to no mess.
Merlin still doesn't like Percival much. Him getting neutered really hasn't changed the kitty social interactions too much.
Gas is now $3.99 9/10 per gallon (why not just round it up to $4?) at the corner sevice station. Every time I get a tank of gas, I end up paying more then I have ever paid before.
As much as I try to avoid the whole presidential campaign right now, I cannot help but notice that the Democratic party has kind of painted itself into a corner. On the one hand... it is great that one Democratic candidate is a black man and the other is a woman. However. If Barak wins the nomination, it will be because the voters are all misogynists (I have already heard Hillary whining on NPR that the reason that she is not winning is because people "hate women") and if Hillary wins the nomination, it will be because all of the voters are rascists. The Democrats just can't win.

Percival had an appointment at the vet today, during which he underwent some surgery to remove a couple of bits of anatomy.
He is, understandably, rather subdued right now. Last I checked, he was sleeping on the bed.

To Camden UK and back.
I spent the first half of my birthday sitting on a 9-hour overseas flight. Didn't even get any free booze from the flight attendants in recognition of the day... but I did have a window seat with an empty seat next to me in one of those little two seat rows, so I guess that I still came out ahead. Spent the second half of the day and well into the very late evening at a fundraiser dance event at the Oasis, which I had agreed to photograph. Remarkably, the photos came out very well, despite me being jet-lagged and completely zoned out of my mind with exhaustion.
(I spent the day after my birthday in the DMV renewing my driver's license. The fun never stops.)
To Philiadelphia and back.
I feel like the Red Queen from Through the Looking-Glass... "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"...
On another note, I love Zappos. I ordered a new computer bag on Saturday, and the box was on the porch and waiting when I got home from work today.
