Cutting the Cake

[ Taken May 30, 2009 | Cutting the Cake | Centerville, OH ]

We are married (almost a month now) and a couple of weeks back from the honeymoon (10 days in Maui) and now more or less back into normal life.

I didn't take the photo above... I took some photos the day before, during the rehearsal dinner, and a handful the day of, but for the most part I was forbidden from picking up a camera during the reception. John had the idea that it would look slightly tacky, and be more then a little awkward, for a bride to be running around with a camera during her own reception. So, for the most part, I left the camera alone. Someone, maybe one of my parents, picked it up and got a couple of photos (see above) while we were cutting the cake. But other then that, so far we really don't have any pictures from the ceremony, after the ceremony, or during the reception. We didn't get a photographer. After looking at some of the (highway robbery) prices that wedding phototgraphers charge for what (I thought) were pretty lackluster results, we decided that since many members of our own families were good with cameras, that we would just let them do what they wanted to do, and attempt to collect copies of everything later.

(hint, hint, beloved family... I would love to see the pictures that you took!)

The cake, by the way, was delicious. Home-made by John's Mom... white chocolate cake with rasberry filling... buttercream icing... delicious! I think that I will need to request the recipie.

I will be writing more about the ceremony and reception and glorious honeymoon later... as I get the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds (yes, literally) of photos that I took in Maui processed and sorted.

Meanwhile, back to reality. Back to semi-regular posting. I have to say, that there is nothing like not posting for a while to really get one (meaning me) out of the general swing of it.

Reality.

It is hot and humid here in Dayton... hotter and more humid then it was in Maui, or at least it feels that way. Though it may feel that way partially because I am wearing slightly more here then the bikini and shorts that was my standard outfit (except for going to dinner, for that I generally wore a sundress, and for swimming, in which case I ditched the shorts) on Maui. So my reaction was to cut my hair. Again. Once I got over the inertia of long hair and never cutting it, it has been surprisingly easy to go ever shorter. This may be the shortest that it has ever been. I can't put it into a ponytail at all. This makes Percivale happy, since now all of the hairties in the house are his to play with. I am also getting carded again when I buy wine.

I like it. John likes it. I think that I will keep it like this for at least the rest of the summer.

I am probably online too much.
